Florida, August 10-16, 2013.

What we did on this trip:
  • Visited Pastor Al and Miss Ruth after Pastor Al's surgery.  Our pastor passed away from heart failure about a month after our visit.
  • Stayed at Fort Myers and Naples.
  • Took Naples cruise to see the area.
  • Took Everglades cruise.
  • Visted Chokoloskee Island.
  • Visited Corkscrew Sanctuary, saw a large alligator.
  • Saw bald eagles in Marco Island.
Some photos:

The first time I saw a lighted "Turn Off Electronics" sign.  Now that the FAA has modified the rules on electronic equipment, these signs are now obsolete.

The obligatory shot of a turtle.

The sign reminds us of the time Anne tipped over in her Kayak and lost her eye glasses and camera.

Dinner was good at this busy Nervous Nellie's Restaurant.

Visit with Miss Ruth and Pastor Al at Shell Point Village after the Pastor's heart valve surgery.  Pastor Al passed away about a month later.

At Salty Sam's Marina in Fort Myers Beach.  The egret managed to catch fish even though it was perched in a precarious position.

 Pirate Ship at Naples.

Punta Gorda Fisherman's Village welcomes us at the end of the cruise.

Sunset Cruise on the Peace River.

There are many of these at the Corkscrew Park.  These haven't developed their wings yet.

We didn't know what this was.  A Park Volunteer told us it was raccoon scat (droppings.)

Strangler Fig.  Unlike the ones we saw in Australia, they don't completely engulf their victims.

This is the ghost orchid.  We took a photograph of a photograph of it at the visitors' center.  We never found the real one.  Sighting is made even more difficult as it is not in bloom.

This is a photo I found on the web.

This alligator is real.  We were walking very carefully for a while after we saw this, even though we were on an elevated boardwalk.

 A woodpecker.

One of many large houses we saw on the Naples Cruise.

A pleasant way to spend a hour.

Bald eagle sighted during Naples cruise.

 Bald eagle on Marco Island.

We passed by many mangroves on the Coastguard Cruise.

This is a really wide beach in the Naples area.
