Hong Kong, June 12 - 21, 2012.

Trip to take care of a couple of family items, and to meet up with a couple of charities.

6/12/2012 Tuesday.  Got to airport at about 1:20 pm for a 3:15 pm flight.  Close to flight time, a delay was announced, the new takeoff time would be 4 pm.  After another couple of delays, we were told there would be no flight today, so I asked Anne to pick me up.  Flight was supposed to leave Wednesday at 7 am, but ended up leaving at 8:30 am.  The story I constructed from the tidbits of information I overheard was that the thunderstorm that came through Tuesday afternoon caused some problems that just cascaded as far as our flight was concerned.  While I can see it is difficult to find a plane with the range, and the crew with the proper amount of rest for the long journey, the experience still left a bad taste in my mouth.  Welcome to the new Continental, also known as the old United.

6/14/2012 Thursday.  Plane got to HKG at around noon.  Ate something simple at Maxim’s and then headed to Tai Po.  I actually slept for a couple of hours after I go there.

I would be staying at the Tai Po house during the trip.

6/15/2012 Friday.  Lunch with Tim at West Villa.  Since he was free that evening, I met up with him and walked from his house up Link Road and Lockwood Road to Tai Hang Road.  The loop back to Causeway Bay is about 5 km in distance, and turned out to be relatively easy.  Simple dinner at his house afterwards.

6/16/2012 Saturday.  Went to Tai Po Science Park to meet up with Edwin L to talk about HC: we are both members on the advisory board. Met up with Tony and Yvonne W to discuss some charity work they do in China.  It was a rainy day, but we still got in Tim’s boat to go to Lamma Island for an “organic” lunch.  Had a simple dinner at Café de Coral by myself before attending a HKPO concert at the Cultural Center.

6/17/2012 Sunday.  Lunch in Stanley, W paid because it was father’s day.  Got back to Tai Po, Alyson and her classmate will be staying at the Tai Po house for a few days, their intention was to go on a diet and exercise; they ended up sleeping in, chatting, and eating a few heavy dinners.  Which is okay, they just completed their high school certificate exams recently.  We hiked for about 2 hours, passing by Lin Au where my father was head teacher for several years.  I hadn’t visited that place for 40 or so years.  It is larger than I remembered it.

Our father taught here in the 60s.  We visited often.  It is larger than how I remembered it.

6/18/2012 Monday.  Met up with Ling and Wally and had lunch at Jade Garden at Mongkok East MTR.  Went to a couple of bookstores to find books for Anne.  For dinner took the two dieting girls to Chiu Chow Garden in Tai Po MTR for dinner.

6/19/2012 Tuesday.  An idle day, even by this trip’s standards.

6/20/2012 Wednesday.  Lunch at Hong Kong Club with Larry.  Met with Wong Associates for a second time.  Dinner at Tai Po house.

6/21/2012 Thursday.  Taxi to airport.  Plane was reasonably full, seated in the middle seats next to me were a grandfather taking his grandson to the USA for a month.  Kid (aged 3) very well behaved, but still made for an uncomfortable flight.  Tried but couldn’t make an earlier flight to Newark.  Took train to South Amboy, Anne had a class.
